Don’t Waste Your Time in Network Marketing.
How many times have we seen people all fired up about their new business when they first start? They can’t wait to tell everyone that they know about how much money can be made, how great the product(S) are, blah, blah, blah. First mistake. By hitting on your family, friends and anyone that you breathe on, I believe that you are setting yourself up for failure and here is why. Not because your are talking to people, that is a good thing. But because you are talking to the wrong people or approaching the right people in the wrong way. People that if approached correctly about owning their own home business might be rock stars waiting to happen. Here’s a concept that they will never teach you in your Johnny Network Marketing correspondence course.
The concept is called qualifying and it takes all of 30-45 seconds and that’s if you are speaking slowly. The beauty of it is that it will save the average network marketer from a ton of unnecessary rejection thereby shielding and protecting his / her fragile ego from destruction. I’ve been in sales for 20+ years, meaning I’ve obviously faced my share of no’s, my share of rejection. And even though it’s ingrained in me being that rejection is part of the process, guess what? It still sucks! And I’ve learned over the years how to refine my prospecting so that I am only talking to folks who have proven themselves worthy of my time. ( Yes, I said worthy of my time. Time is our most precious resource and I refuse to give the gift of my time to anyone that hasn’t earned the right to it. And you shouldn’t either. )
So, question is, how do we accomplish this feat? For starters, yes you can make a list of people you know. But use a little common sense when you do. If you’re brother in law hits the bar every night after work and can’t break his Monday Night Football fix,or has never shown the slightest interest in making a change in his life, why would you even mention your business to him? Just mentioning your business to someone like that will almost invariably elicit a response similar to: ” What are you doing, that’s a pyramid scam.” It’s called ignorance. But of much more importance, it affects your attitude. Stay away from these types of people. There’s like six or seven billion other people on the planet. This is an extreme example, but common sense will save you of grief. Your business is not for everybody. Accept it, you’ll be better off.
Now, with others, people you know are sharp, don’t call them and launch into a pitch. Call them and have a normal conversation with them. This is what normal people do. At the end of your conversation, ask them the following. ” John, I’m just curious, do you know anyone who likes to take vacations and have fun?”, or ” John, I’m just curious, have you ever given any thought to what it would be like to own your life?”. If they answer no to either of those questions, you’re done. Why would you want to continue? This person has just disqualified themselves for any of your time. If you’re a glutton for punishment, go ahead. But there’s no point to it. Save your energy for someone who answers yes. Move on, next. You’ll find more than enough people who’ll answer yes to these questions. And those are the people you want to spend your time with.
To your success,
